Betting on Weight Of The Grand National WinnerThe statistics for weight of the Grand National winner tell a story that should let you narrow the field down by a fair few horses. From 1990 to 2007 the only horse to carry more than 11 stone was Hedgehunter in 2005. Even then Hedgehunter carried just 11-1 and it was a bit of an exception as even under that weight he was extremely well handicapped as he managed to come second the following year when carrying a massive 11-12. Only two winners between 1990 and 2007 carried less than 10 stone. The most recent of those successes came in 1999 and with the way the Grand National weights are decided these days it would be no surprise if there aren't many more winners carrying less than 10 stone. In fact, there won't even be many runners caryying those sorts of weights. That leaves fourteen out of seventeen runnings where the winner has carried between 10 and 11 stone. Only two have carried between 10 stone and 10-5 and the most popular weight bracket is between 10-6 and 10-8 with a whopping nine winners carrying those wins depsite the relatively small margin. The other three winners carried either 10-10 or 10-12.
