As the Grand National is run in Spring there is often plenty of nice weather leading up to the race. Between 1990 and 2009 the going was softer than good to soft just three times. It will be fairly obvious if the ground is going to be very soft as it will probably be raining when you place your bet!
A whopping ten of the above Grand Nationals were run on good ground and that shows why good ground is usually the favourite in the Grand National Going betting. That leaves just five times the race was run on good to soft ground. 2010 Grand National GoingThere is plenty of rain around at the moment but every dry day is also quite warm so we don't expect good ground but it also probably won't be that soft.
