Odds On A Female Jockey Riding The Grand National Winner

Female Grand National Jockeys So Far

No female jockey has ever won the Grand National but in 2005 there was a very profile female ridden horse in the Grand National. Forest Gunner went off the 8/1 second favourite for the Grand National and ended up finishing 5th ridden by Carrie Ford. Although underperforming slightly that was more due to lack of stamina than the female jockey.

The other notable recent horse in a Grand National ridden by a female jockey was again Forest Gunner in 2006 when he was ridden by Nina Carberry. He could only finish 9th on that occasion but the jockey would not have made much difference to that finishing position.

Future Female Grand National Winners

If a female jockey is going to win the Grand National in the next few years it is most likely to be Nina Carberry as she is getting more and more good rides so it is worth keeping an eye on what she is riding in the Grand National, if anything.

There is nothing that suggests a female jockey can't win the Grand National and given the right opportunity it might not be too long until there is a female ridden winner of the Grand National.

Nina Carberry rides Character Building in the Grand National 2010.
