Betting on Age Of The Grand National Winner

The statistics for age of the Grand National winner tell a story that should let you narrow the field down by a fair few horses.

From 1990 to 2007 the youngest horse to win the Grand National was an 8 year old and that happened on two occasions. The oldest Grand National winner in that time was a twelve year old and that also occurred twice during that time period.

That still leaves thirteen recent Grand Nationals. Four 9 year olds were successful in the Grand National, five 10 year olds won and four 11 year olds took the prestigious race.

So, by far the most successful age band is the 9 to 11 year olds, although 8 year olds and 12 year olds can win the Grand National if good enough. To select the age of the Grand National winner you need to not only look at the stats but also the runners each year. Have a look at the age of the fancied runners. If more of them are 9, 10 or 11 then that is the most likely age of the Grand National Winner.
